Shop Signage And Shutters Have Been Installed

Welcome back to our blog, guys!

Today we have more exciting news to share with you about our restaurant.

Guess what? Today was the day that our logo and shop signage went up above the door! Number 8 Restaurant looks like an actual restaurant now, at least from the outside.

I can’t believe it! The place is slowly coming together and shaping up at a great pace, it’s all becoming a reality and it looks amazing. Just like we pictured it. ?

It’s amazing being able to watch as your dreams come true little by little, we’re working really hard and it’s great to see all of that hard work be fruitful. We’re so proud of Number 8 Restaurant already and we’re not even open yet haha.

Even though we’re very excited by our progress so far, there’s still a long way to go before we will be able to open our doors. For example, right now, we’re looking into shopfitting and joinery services around our area to help us with the interior design. We have a clear vision for our place and we’re shopping around to find the right fit for us.

In the meantime though, we’ve installed shutters to shop front (fitted by http://www.shutterrepairlondon.org) and next step is the interior!

Here’s Andrew hard at work fitting the shutters below.

It’s crazy how such a simple change can make such a difference.

Anyway, that’s all the news for now. More to come soon!

We’ve just applied for our licenses!!

Hey everyone! It’s time for a little update, and let me tell you, the restaurant is making progress!

Each day we’re getting closer and closer to opening! Are you excited?

We’re getting all our ducks in a row and have finally applied for all the licenses that we’ll need to have our place up and running soon. ?

First, we needed to register for the Food Business License. We need to do it at least 28 days before opening our restaurant, so we’re trying to get it done as quickly as we can. This is the most important license to have underway when you’re planning to open a restaurant, at least in my opinion (of course, I may be biased since I am the Chef haha).

My husband agrees, of course, but he thinks that the alcohol license is just as essential to a restaurant. (which, I have to admit, is kind of true).

So that our guests won’t be thirsty while they’re dining at Number 8 Restaurant, we’ve applied for an alcohol licence at the same time, since we plan on offering our customers some great Uruguayan red wine to go with their delicious dinners.

We’re also looking to have other options among our alcoholic beverages, because not everyone loves red wine as much as I do and we want to cater to most, if not all, tastes.

We’re trying to figure out if we need to have our premises approved as well, since food will be our main source of income and we’ll be handling meat and dairy, this is an important thing to consider. We’ve contacted our council and are waiting for their response now.

That’s all the news we have for you right now, but check back soon for new updates if you want to learn more about the journey of opening our restaurant!

Our Name: Why The Number 8?

So…We’re finally going to do it: We’re going to open our own restaurant!!

As you can imagine, we are equal parts excited and nervous for the start of this incredible new experience. We’ve always dreamt of opening our very own eatery and we’re finally making that dream a reality!

Already we’re getting everything done to get it up and running. We’ve started mapping out our business plan, including the type of cuisine we’ll be offering to our hungry customers and, just as important, the restaurant’s name.

Do you want to know that the name is? …Are you ready for it?

Drum roll please….

Its name will be Number 8 Restaurant!

Why “Number 8”, you ask?

Well, the reason is quite simple really.

Not only is it my lucky number (and always has been), but to make matters even more special, 8 is also the street number of the place too.

Isn’t that just perfect?!

In case you were wondering, the reason the number 8 is my lucky number is simply because I was born on August 8th of 1988 (8/8/88, get it?). It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that I’ve always thought 8 was an appropriate lucky number to have. Maybe I’ll even have 8 kids one day (just kidding, mum haha)

So, you can guess that finding the perfect venue with the same street number as the restaurant’s name is as perfect as it gets. It was like this place was meant to be ours, you know? ?

About Number 8 Restaurant’s menu, we’re looking to offer something different to the people in the UK, all Uruguayan cuisine. In case you haven’t heard of this type of food, it’s all about yummy stakes and grilled beef. Doesn’t that sound delicious?

Our vision for the place is that it should be a little bit rustic (all wooden joinery and sturdy but comfortable furniture), a place where you and your family can go to have a lovely dinner. ?

My husband and I thought it would be a good idea to share with all of you every step of the process. This way you can get to know us, (maybe even learn from us if you’re dreaming of opening your own restaurant someday) and, as a bonus, we’ll have a written record of everything that this exciting new chapter in our lives will bring. Something we can look back on when we’re older.

We hope you will enjoy learning about our journey as much as we’ll (hopefully) enjoy going through it.

Stay tuned for more updates to come!

Coming Soon!

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our brand new Uruguayan restaurant, coming very very soon.

In the mean time, to whet your appetite, here’s one of our favourite videos about our cusine from the legendary Anthony Bourdain.

PS: Fun fact – did you know there are  more cows than people in Uruguay? Amazing, huh?
